Cutting hair is one of my favorite ways to create beauty because it is the art of sculpting shape for a medium that lives and breathes! A great haircut is a co-creative process that starts with good communication and a thorough understanding of my client’s desires, needs and lifestyle. I am always looking at the person’s total look and how the haircut will accentuate my client’s features and unique style.
Once we establish a vision together in that initial consultation, I normally explain to my new clients that I am not a “chatty haircutter.” Good music and silence is my preference when I sculpt as the process is very much a meditative one. But the main reason I don’t like to talk much while I cut hair is that I am listening. I find myself in a conversation with the hair itself as I am cutting it. Yes, hair talks to me!
I receive inspiration as I am cutting from the unique growth patterns and small nuances being revealed to me as I give my full attention to this hair conversation. My approach to cutting hair is a blend of my Vidal Sassoon precision cut training, free form sculpting and intuitive listening.
